However, Trump’s unrelenting passion for non-disclosure — coupled with his footsy-playing fondness for a meddling enemy of the United States is a toxic brew that will have predictably toxic results.

Alan Archibald I have long considered the ancient Greek tale of Philoctetes an essential myth - and, oddly, a myth that is essentially overlooked. (In passing I note that mutual friend Ron Firman brought Philoctetes to my attention in the late '70s.)
Philoctetes was a sailor/warrior who, returning from The Trojan War, was bitten by a poisonous snake during a provisioning stop.
The resulting wound would not heal and gave off such a repulsive stench that his mates marooned him on the island of Lemnos.
From that moment, Philoctetes' ship could make no progress against unrelenting headwinds.
Finally, this ceaseless adversity persuaded his former crew members that the gods were punishing them for abandoning their fellow.
And so they returned to Lemnos to pluck Philoctetes from his exile. Immediately, "the winds" turned in their favor.
Notably, Philoctetes was the single mythological "subject" most frequently "treated" by ancient Greek tragedians.

Ever since learning this curious tale, I have lived with a keen sense that "abandoning one's fellows" -- no matter how they "stink" -- is "against the will of the gods."

"Conservative" "Christians'" ultimate justification for visiting retaliatory vengeance on non-believing "infidels" is that you and I are "baby killers" and they, of course, are completely removed from such utterly damnable monstrosity.
But if we take a deeper dive it is highly debatable whether pro-lifers' proscription-of-abortion is not part of a cultural matrix that's paradoxically responsible for social and cultural conditions resulting in HIGHER incidence of abortion than those societies in which pro-choice sentiment makes legal abortion available.
