My Friend Nancy's Church Offers Sanctuary

From my high school sweetheart and lifelong friend, Nancy:

So let me raise up a few facts: 7 children died in federal customs and border patrol custody since October 1st -- the CBP fiscal year's beginning.  

In the previous 10 years NO children died in custody. 

Two died died on the concrete floors no adult or medical professional around, though folks knew they were sick, but sent them back to the cells with no adults with them at all and they died while vomiting and having raging fevers (those are the official reports!). 

So, sure, we can make sure churches can take people.  

Our church can take people. 

We take 70 men in for a month every winter.  

We have room for 70 people.  

We are designated a sanctuary church.  

And down the street you can get a full-calorie meal (in the camps an analysis of the meal was that it was only enough calories for a three year old and under) and health care (San Francisco has free health care) and you can be with your family.

 Homelessness even, though, in SF would be a step up from what these folks have right now.  

As for the government:  the money spent on prison, could be spent on care and extra judges to speed up the asylum hearings temporary housing, or cut some military spending! 

What we have is right now completely unacceptable.  

Especially for the children.  

I wouldn't be the first to say "Wait!" is a dangerous word sometimes.  

That time is now. 

And for folks who don't think so, I'd like to toss them -- or better yet their small child -- into a cell and have the world cease to pay much attention and see if it still feels okay to wait.  

I'm so glad you are going to work on getting the sponsorship information more accessible, though, SHH.  

It needs to be easily available and you have passion there to do it.
