Alan: If you are an American citizen and think you live in a Democracy where the election of the president and representatives generally operates under the principle of "One Person, One Vote," buckle you seat belt and put in your mouth guard.
Most, if not all states, operate -- legally -- in such a way that government officials strive to limit (and in many cases strive to minimize in racially and ethnically biased ways) the electoral principle of "One Person, One Vote."
The likelihood is overwhelming that your state's Secretary of State operates by fiat, dictating (in the full totalitarian sense of "dictatorship") the rules that determine the conduct of state and federal elections.
Whether your Secretary of State is a man or woman, that ONE person devises and ultimately supervises how elections will be conducted. And they do this dirty, anti-democratic business with the same dictatorial power as Caligula, Nero, Tiberius, Domitian, Diocletian and Cesar.
If you are not ashamed of America's polling place travesty -- and if you are not prepared to rise up in open rebellion -- you are a shameful American.
The inter-related issue of the number of polling places in a given county -- and the location of those polling places -- are determined by local "election boards," notorious for their ferocious determination to disenfranchise black and brown citizens by making the location of polling places (and their hours of operation) prohibitively inconvenient.

Alan: If individual states are so benighted that they choose to keep their electoral monstrosities in place, I say let them carry on for now while the citizenry vigorously debates our national need for federal and presidential elections to be ruled by federal law, not state law.
It may be that developing new federal electoral law will require a constitutional amendment to over-rule state and local bailiwicks.
Whether or not a constituional amendment proves necessary, let us open the door of this fetid, skeleton-filled closet in order to stoke public outrage at the nation's persistent -- and deliberate -- injustice, injustice that is fundamentally racist in its origin and its current enactment.
Let it be known that the U.S. electoral system, as manifest at the state and local levels, embodies a shameless exhibition of anti-democratic process worthy of every textbook dictatorship that has ever conducted sham elections in order to ape democratic governance.
