Most Christians think religion is a safe harbor, and -- having professed faith in their Lord and Savior -- they believe themselves "safe" and "saved" forevermore.
Blaise Pascal, a very devout Christian (and a mathematical/philosophical genius) argued otherwise: "Men never do evil so completely and so cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."
Once we identify our personal will with God's will... whatever we do starts to look a LOT like the will of god.
