"George Floyd," Friend Whitney MacDonald's Poem

Protests flare over the death of George Floyd as fired officer is ...

George Floyd

George went quick
Eight minutes
Four hundred and eighty seconds
A time lapse
In numbers I can count
But how many seconds does it take
To crush the dreams
To extinguish the spark
In the eye
Of a young black child
Who dreams
Of being
A doctor
A teacher
A father
A man
How many seconds does it take
Before that mother
Arms around her newborn son
Starts to worry
Starts to count the days
Until she gets that call
Or sees that video
That video that sped it up
For all of us to see
Life slowly crushed
A white man
On his neck
Every day
Every
Black
Man
