Alan: The underlying swamp is epistemological.
We either educate a greater percentage of the population, or "the good fight" is lost.
Trolls... And The End Of Civilization As We Know It
Note: The lion's share of our educational task is to fix The Whole Goddamn Culture so that more families value education.
(Obviously, there are very gnarly feedback loops in all this...)
Just this morning, I re-worked the blog post above -- "Trolls... And The End Of Civilization As We Know It" -- and it is now "new and improved!"
Here's the deal...
It is not that we don't know what needs to be done.
And it is not that we don't know how to do it.
And it is not that we are incapable of explaining to the dimwits what needs to be done in terms simple enough for them to understand... if we can hold their addled attention long enough. (Good luck with that!)
It is none of those things.
It is -- as Georgie once said in response to several years correcting his fallacious mass email claims -- "But I like being partially right." (Verbatim quote.)
Although I should let the previous sentence stand in its starkness, I can't resist this addendum: "Being partially right is worse than being entirely wrong." The "conservative" Noise Machine understands this very well.)
People embrace falsehood.
And Bad Religion persuades people that falsehood is God's Truth, or... that they are obliged to believe falsehood because God has ordained their faithfulness.
"God said it. I believe it. That settles it."
Enter Jim Bakker.

The miasma enfolding America is infinitely mycelliar: people have been lied to from birth, and they WANT to be lied to forevermore.
Why?
Because they are now brim-full of a worldview comprised entirely of lies.
Given that the encompassing Falsehood has been as normalized as The Shit Storm, Truth now infuriates them - rendering them at least as crazy as you are when you scream at your TV.
Chthonically, these benighted people know that if they let the light in, they will be blinded by it.

There are two ways of lying, as there are two ways of deceiving customers. If the scale registers 15 ounces, you can say: "It's a pound." Your lie will remain relative to an invariable measure of the true. If customers check it, they can see that they are being robbed, and you know by how much you are robbing them: a truth remains as a judge between you. But if the demon induces you to tamper with the scale itself, it is the criterion of the true which is denatured, there is no longer any possible control. And little by little you will forget that you are cheating.

We are all up against the wall of obedience-and-comfort now.

Alan: A culture in which candidates for congressional office ask the following question is a culture so moribund, it is at least plausible that God/karma/"Corleone-payback" "intends" its demise. The good news is that formerly imperial polities routinely become GREAT places to live: Italy, Spain, Holland, Portugal, Holland, England.
Is Dr. Fauci Married to Ghislaine Maxwell’s Sister?
Sharing a first name is not the same as sharing an identity.
- PUBLISHED 7 JULY 2020
CLAIM: Dr. Anthony Fauci is married to Ghislaine Maxwell's sister.
Origin
On July 6, 2020, DeAnna Lorraine, a proponent of the “QAnon” movement who tried unsuccessfully to win a seat in U.S. Congress, posted a message on Twitter claiming that Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the lead members of the Trump Administration’s White House Coronavirus Task Force, was married to the sister of Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite recently arrested on charges related to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking ring:
Lorraine’s post included a photograph of Fauci and his wife, Christine Grady, and a screenshot of the Wikipedia page of Maxwell’s sister, Christine Maxwell. But these Christines are two different individuals.
Christine Grady, Fauci’s wife, was born in New Jersey in 1952, attended Georgetown University, authored hundreds of papers in the field of bioethics, served on the President’s Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues from 2010 to 2017, and is currently the Chief of the Department of Bioethics for the National Institutes of Health.
Christine Maxwell, Ghislaine Maxwell’s sister, was born in France in 1950 and co-founded Magellan, one of the internet’s early search engines. According to The Daily Beast, Maxwell was a doctoral candidate at the The University of Texas at Dallas in 2019.
Lorraine eventually deleted her tweet and admitted that she had been wrong about Dr. Fauci being married to Maxwell’s sister:
