Discussion With A Friend About The Carnal Sins... And The Spiritual Sins

Beverly - headdress idea | Carnival girl, Brazil carnival ...
The Etymology of Carnival

Thanks for your email Marsh.

I was intrigued by your Dad's comment.

For decades, I've promoted my maxim - "All things in moderation, including excess."

You don't have to answer the following question, but when you say "care must be taken only to avoid giving lust (or any other strong passion) total control, especially even briefly," are you talking about the kind of eruptive lust that can destroy marriage by "ill-advised flings," or, do you also include masturbation "even briefly?"

My own belief is that the carnal sins are, generally speaking, of far less importance than the spiritual sins.

Notably, Jesus is much more prone to socialize with traitorous tax collectors, wine bibblers, whores and sundry publicans than with Pharisees. I suspect this is because the former appreciated (albeit to dangerous and even destructive excess) "the juice" of life, whereas the Pharisees are as dry as old bones and would have others forswear their juice as well.

Organized Christianity generally -- and "conservative Christians" always -- deploy blindingly bright warning lights around  THE sin of the flesh, in large part to prevent "spiritual sins" from rising to radar.

I have no expectation you'll read the following essays, but do hope you'll read the titles.

As my Dad used to say, "Moderation in all things, including moderation." ~{8-)>
