Aquinas Discovers That "Divine Truth" Cannot Contradict Nature And "The Natural Light"

Concerning the bewildering fact of multiple death threats on the life of Dr. Anthony Fauci...

At bedrock, "conservative" "Christians" (who are neither) know that their brand of "Christianity" cannot survive the implications of Reason and Science.

Thomas Aquinas (Born: 1225, Roccasecca, Italy Died: March 7, 1274, Abbazia di Fossanova, Fossanova Abbey, Italy) marked a major milestone in western thought when his heart, soul and and formidable mind - working in concert - realized the ontological/epistemological need to prioritize Reason. 

And so it was that humankind emerged from the encompassing swamp of "superstition." 

 Currently, homo "sapiens" is reverting to that same swamp.

In the immediate wake of Aquinas, the Middle Ages gave way to the Renaissance, and the Renaissance gave way to The European Enlightenment, and the European Enlightenment gave way to systems of governance - most notably Democracy - based on societies' self-determination rather than The Divine Right of Kings, or some other professedly autocratic, system of governance like Orban's, Salvini's, Duterte's, Trump's. 

With the sweep of D'Aquino's pen, superstition, gossip, rumor and wives' tales (some of which were true) lost their presumed priority as "The Way" human beings would - and implicitly "should" - conduct their lives.

Most people in Aquinas' time -- and many people today -- thought/think that faith, no matter how ignorant and blind, "trumps" Reason, and so they see Fauci (whether or not they can articulate their view) as representing an existential threat to the only "Christianity" they've ever known.

 And there is no more terrifying threat than "losing one's religion." Most people would rather die.

I realize that many Trumpistas of murderous intent are not professedly Christian, but his diehard Base is almost entirely comprised of these modern day "Christian" "snake handlers," and the rest are sympathizers... or otherwise "under the influence."
