Kansas bishops are demanding a quid pro quo for supporting health care. Add your name today: The bishops must not hold Medicaid expansion hostage!

Dear Alan,
Pope Francis says that health care is a human right, not a privilege. He's even called the Catholic Church a "field hospital" for the marginalized.

Sadly, four Catholic bishops in Kansas have completely missed the pope's point. The bishops are refusing to support Medicaid expansion for thousands of low-income Kansans unless the state will amend its constitution to restrict abortion.

Whenever Jesus healed the sick, he never demanded a political quid-pro-quo first. No matter what one believes about abortion, it is simply not Christian to use access to affordable health care as a political bargaining chip.

These bishops could listen to the Pope -- and model Christ's example -- by helping expand live-saving Medicaid to 130,000 Kansans. Instead, they've chosen to throw their lot in with the state's right-wing politicians, which is why they need to hear from thousands of Catholics and other Christians across the country today.
Thanks for everything you do to love your neighbor!
In peace,
