Ted Bundy
Theodore Robert Bundy (born Theodore Robert Cowell; November 24, 1946 – January 24, 1989) was an American serial killer who kidnapped, raped, and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s and possibly earlier. After more than a decade of denials, before his execution in 1989 he confessed to 30 homicides that he committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978. The true number of victims is unknown and possibly higher.
Bundy was regarded as handsome and charismatic, traits that he may have exploited to win the trust of victims and society. He would typically approach his victims in public places, feigning injury or disability, or impersonating an authority figure, before overpowering, raping and killing them in secluded locations. He sometimes revisited his secondary crime scenes, grooming and performing sexual acts with the decomposing corpses until putrefaction and destruction by wild animals made any further interactions impossible. He decapitated at least 12 victims and kept some of the severed heads as mementos in his apartment.[3]
Alan: I knew Americans had gone crazy from that epiphanic moment -- 15 years ago -- when it became instantly clear that 9/11 unleashed The National Lunacy.
However, the fact that Trump's approval rating has risen since the impeachment inquiry began is bewildering. Malignant Messiah's approval has gone up 5% since Adam Schiff gavelled commencement.
Poll finds sharp swing in opposition to impeachment among independents
Is it possible that Americans who erroneously thought they were "on the side of sanity" suddenly found themselves being oddly validated by impeachment testimony, persuaded that they too would have behaved with the same radical (if not solipsistic) self-interest that Trump exhibited in his relationship with Ukraine.
And so, not wanting to be condemned by this new revelation, they reflexively found themselves approving Trump.
And up his ratings go!

No sooner do I hypothesize conservatives' growing awareness of their own previously unacknowledged vility than I hear American liberals pooh-poohing the possibility.
Consider.
Is it possible that American liberals just cannot live in this ugly, new world (at least not comfortably) unless they believe that people like Trump and his diehard sympathizers are aberrations, and that most of them would see "the error of their ways" if only Truth came to light?
But, in keeping with a bizarre feedback loop, the growing realization that American "conservatives" are impervious to Truth -- that there is no way to "get through" to them -- is undermining liberals' sanity.
By their nature, liberals need a "rational world" as much as Trumpista "conservatives" need "howling lunacy."
As an aside, I direct readers to the following TED Talk by a young women born into the Westboro Baptist Church cult and how Truth got through to her, and how she now teaches a "method" whereby those "who once were lost can now be found."

But getting back to the ugly reality...
Liberals - in a way that goes much deeper than conscious recognition - project too much reasonability-and-goodness onto "the other side of the aisle."
But "the other side of the aisle" believes it requires a strong man -- using strong man tactics -- to keep liberals this side of Hitler's National Socialism.
"We" tend to assume - mistakenly - that most insane people foam at the mouth, or babble word salad on street corners, smelling of urine and wearing a single shoe.
The inconvenient truth is that there may be millions (or even tens of millions) of insane Americans whose emotional affect is like Ted Bundy's, the kind of young man you'd want your daughter to date, until her severed head shows up on your mantle.

In the following links you will discover how millions of people who appear "normal" -- and often "beautiful" -- make their way from Bundy's brand of smiley-faced amorality into Trump Tower and onto Wall Street.
We should not be surprised that this vile transition happens.
It should be what we expect.
