Ideologues - On Both Sides Of The Aisle - Are Obsessed With Purity

image.png
Dear F,

You probably know the old saw about legislation.

It's like sausage.

Tastes great... but you don't want to see it made.

What's happening with the "breakdown of compromise" is that people -- on both sides of the aisle (albeit predominantly the right side) -- refuse to make sausage because it offends their self-righteous, uncompromising nature.

If democracy is to work -- and we may be embarking the end of democracy -- there is no alternative but "getting down and dirty."

Hitler, Mussolini, Trump (and I imagine the same is true for "the breed") are all "clean freaks."

And because they are so clean, they get to look down their nose at the "great, unwashed masses."

Pondering the recommendations to limit human  interaction and closings of sports and entertainment restaurants etc.causing wage if not job losses, it occurred to me it makes a great case for Yangs  guaranteed monthly income for many people. I'm still not o.k. for the uber wealthy to qualify.

Might be worth another look in the new administration. Get rid of other aid /welfare packages and transfer money to guaranteed income.

The worry about staying home if sick with no paid sick time would be lessened.
Another pandemic will come along, usually every 10 years. This one was sooner than expected. With climate change we might have a  more unexpected future.
