"The Owl Theory": Follow-Up To Netflix 10 And 1/2 Hour Documentary, "The Staircase"

I think I mentioned my 45 minute conversation with lawyer Larry Pollard who devised "The Owl Theory" to explain Kathleen Peterson's death occasioned by an owl attack - and not by blunt force at the hands of husband, Michael Peterson.

When this WRAL  interview was taped, there was, I believe, evidence of only 1 owl feather in Katherine Peterson's hair --- evidence that came to light belatedly. 

By the time I spoke with Larry (at Mary Cannon Clark's Meadowmont funeral in November, 2018), further forensic investigation had located 38 of Kathleen's own hairs in one of her hands, and 25 of her hairs in the other. 

In Larry Pollard's view, Kathleen ripped these hairs out of her own head as she tried to detach the owl's clawed feet from her scalp. In that tussle many of Kathleen's hairs became bound in bloody clumps with owl hairs.

Larry tells me that Peterson's lawyer, David Rudolf, is now convinced that the sequence of events resulting in Kathleen Peterson's death was unleashed by an owl attack. The resulting trauma of that raptor blow to the back of her head, combined with alcohol and two psychoactive drugs found in Kathleen's system, caused her to fall in the staircase of the Peterson home, a fall that induced traumatic head injury which -- accompanied by blood loss from talon lacerations -- resulted in her death.
