Alan: When dealing with any large-scale occurrence -- 9/11, Sandy Hook, San Bernardino, The Iraq War -- it is always possible to marshal evidence in support of contradictory interpretations.
Despite antipodal views on most topic, it has been scientifically demonstrated that eye witness testimony is grossly mistaken about a third of the time.
Hence my Dad's amazement as a member of the Monroe County Grand Jury tasked with evaluating the deluge of alleged crimes committed during the 1964 race riots in Rochester, New York: During months of jury duty, Dad expressed bewilderment that "people with no apparent ax to grind give antithetical eye-witness accounts of the same event."

The unproved - and I believe unprovable - suggestion that the aggrieved parents of 20 children slaughtered in a Connecticut elementary school are paid agents of the United States federal government participating in a liberal political plot to muster opposition to The Second Amendment is more implausible than the earth being flat (although the fact that the earth appears flat despite its demonstrable roundness is an epistemological peculiarity that all truth seekers might beneficially ponder).
Lamentably, Sandy Hook conspiracy theories do not belie the evidential truth of the carnage as much as they raise the question: "What possesses conspiracy aficionados to create (and circulate) captioned images like the one at the head of this post?"

Revealingly, The Thinking Housewife would never wager her own eternal soul on the truthfulness of the assumption that a salaried troop of Homeland Security actors travels the nation staging "false flag" massacres to topple The Second Amendment. (Apparently, French authorities are in league with them.)
Nevertheless, The Thinking Housewife represents herself as a champion of "Truth" and "Rightness" even though her pending arrival at "The Pearly Gates" will find St. Peter asking why she didn't have "anything better to do" -- e.g., "loving one's enemies" or acts of compassion and charity -- instead of perpetuating hurtful gossip whose cruel outcome is to rub salt in the wounds of aggrieved people, almost all of whom will remain inconsolably wounded for the rest of their lives.
The Thinking Housewife's commitment to "mass murder hoaxes" is grounded in unsubstantiated theorization (no matter how "suggestive" her "evidence" may be). Her ceaseless allegations are not only uncharitable, but, by my lights, vicious, goading and cruel.
Perhaps her callousness is the behavioral outcome of an "absolutist" convinced of her infallible rightness, and - like absolutists across the Abrahamic religious spectrum - she considers non-believers already damned so that her purportedly "godly" actions only adumbrate the torment that God has in store.
Since no one outside the church is saved -- extra Ecclesiam nulla salus -- one is authorized by God Himself to play loose with already "lost souls," a practice that prompted Pascal's penetrating observation:

I propose that conspiratorial gossip-mongers are fundamentally threatened by jaw-dropping acts of random, pathology-driven violence, and to defend themselves against the faith-rattling possibility that horrible things happen "outside" the providential "Will of God," they either deny that these horrors "really" happened or they attribute such depravity to "people" abjectly allegiant to Satan himself.
