Asymmetric Warfare And The Unwinnability Of War: "To The Spoils Belongs The Victor"

Alan: Having surrendered decision-making to "the invisible hand," Republican politicians, void of creative solutions, respond with vituperation, trench-digging and the conviction that all-out violence is the default solution to every psycho-social problem.

Got a problem?

Kill it.

The ISIS crisis is epitomized by a question asked of Obama at Monday's press conference, "Why don't we just take out these sons of bitches?"

To begin a "ground war" whose ostensible purpose is to "take 'em out" will make matters worse.

Here's why.

While "the blood of the Islamic martyrs" becomes the Hydra-headed "seed of the (jihadist) church," psychological and economic exhaustion will force American troops, within years, to quit the theater, leaving behind more of the chaos that engendered ISIS in the first place.

"Bush's Toxic Legacy In Iraq"

We are not fighting an established "state" that can be forced to surrender.

And so The Western World's new-found impotence is inextricably bound to "asymmetric warfare," a phenomenon that harkens back to Ho Chi Minh's Viet Cong and the Uncle Sam's first battleground defeat. (Conservatives argue that "we" lost the Vietnam War because "we didn't really try to win," or that victory was readily achievable if only nuclear weapons were deployed).

Asymmetric Warfare

In this "new world order" we confront highly-decentralized military operatives who "live on the ground" throughout the Middle East -- warriors who will continue to live on the ground after we've left.

Violence can no longer be projected "over there, far away" without "blowback" -- both military and economic -- being worse than "the cure."
