"19 Miles From Davis" Lawn Concert, El Restaurante Ixtapa, August 25, 2018 - With Commentary

Greetings,

This is the first concert "19" has given in which I would not change a thing.

It's not perfect, of course, but even the mistakes are acceptable.

Of my "lead" songs, I am especially happy with the whole band's performance of "Jumping Jack Flash."

A note of interest...

Although we were in process of "calling it a night," Don Pedro piped up and asked us to play "la canción del coyote."

How could we refuse?

"19" has neither played nor rehearsed "Li'l Red Riding Hood" in the last two years.

And since I didn't remember the lyrics, Gilly filled in.

What we lacked in finesse, we made up by "howling at the moon" which was one day short of full.

I hope you like these tracks as much as our audience enjoyed listening to them, and as much as we enjoyed playing.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening!

PS A Mexican obrero in the audience insisted on buying beers for the band, but we only accepted one. What an honor!

PPS The "new" harmonist in the group, Ben Newnam, spent the summer getting paid (!) to perform music theater in West Virginia. Ben just returned to Carolina to resume graduate work in Performing Arts at UNC-Greensboro. The only song I did not include from last night's playlist is Dan Newnam's composition, "Say It Ain't So" which is still in process of copyrighting. Dan plays stand up bass on "Ain't So" and Ben (who is Dan's son) owns the song. It has all the makings of a hit and is one of those rare songs that audiences automatically sing along with. It's irresistible!
