Predictably and blessedly I think imitation is the first stage of human growth. (C.S. Lewis talks of "pretending" our way into Reality.)
Humans gain certain skills by imitating what others have already accomplished.
Then, when they "have a leg to stand on," imitators start doing their own "choreography."
Originality-for-the-sake-of-originality ranks high in my personal pantheon of false gods.
I'm reminded of those everlastingly lame artists who indulge "abstraction" before they've mastered verisimiltudinous representation.
These impostors deserve their own circle in hell.
