Alan: This fellow above is running away and the pursuing cop doesn't even have a gun.
Lest we forget... Michael Baker's killing started as a reprimand for jay-walking.
In most parts of the United States, cops have orders to refrain from hot pursuit of cars traveling at high rates of speed. It would be prudent for police departments to issue orders that certain misdemeanors never justify an officer firing his service weapon.
As a culture, we are so certain that violence is the solution to every problem that we become blind to even worse problems caused by "remedial" violence - not least of which is a militarized frame of mind that posits impeccably good "us" versus evil "them." The ubiquitous American presumption that violence solves every problem holds true nationally - and internationally- as witnessed in Ferguson and in The Iraq War.
At bedrock, Ferguson and Iraq represent two unnecessary acts of explosive violence that made the situation immeasurably worse than it would have been if no shots were fired.

A New York Times report on the huge differences between the accounts of eyewitnesses to the shooting of Michael Brown and accounts from Ferguson police doesn’t have much new information (if you’ve been following LGF, anyway), but it does show once again how consistent all the eyewitness accounts have been.http://littlegreenfootballs.com/...
However, one new detail is very striking — because it’s the first time I’ve seen police admit that officer Darren Wilson actually fired his weapon at Michael Brown as he was running away. Here’s the key section:However, law enforcement officials say witnesses and forensic analysis have shown that Officer Wilson did sustain an injury during the struggle in the car.As Officer Wilson got out of his car, the men were running away. The officer fired his weapon but did not hit anyone, according to law enforcement officials.
Here is the original New York Times article:
As Charles Johnson at LGF says, this is a "big admission". Although the autopsy suggests none of these shots struck Michael Brown, it explains why more than one eyewitness described his having been shot in the back. Several eyewitnesses said that after these shots were fired, Brown turned around with his hands in the air.
I'm so thoroughly disgusted by this tragedy and veering on the point of Ferguson overload. It's enough to make me wonder if posting this diary helps more than it hurts. I hope the former.
Wow, I never knew that the police admitted to shooting at Michael Brown's back
