Alan: Diane Rehm panelist, Paul Butler, a black Law professor at America's premier Catholic university, tells a revelatory story of police harassment. If it happens to Butler, it happens to all black males. "All" the time. If it happened to Cliven Bundy - once - the militias would threaten murder. Prof. Butler's account begins at the 47:06 minute mark.

As a Freedom Rider who was imprisoned in Mississippi Jails and Penitentiaries in May and June of 1961, I must say that I have seldom been more moved than I was just now by the speaker on your show: the black lawyer who described the atrocious treatment he received from DC police as he tried to walk through his neighborhood to walk to his own home.
White Americans have no idea of what it means to be black in America. I purposefully attended a black college (Central State College, Wilberforce OH) to get a taste... I was one of 8 whites/2000 students. I wish that all Americans might experience what it means to be a minority in our society.
White, middle class Americans are good at heart, but they do not have the experience/education to appreciate what minorities in our culture are confronted with EVERY DAY of their lives.
THANK YOU for your voice of reason and for bringing these other voices which educate us.
Race Relations And The Search For

Justice In Ferguson

On Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder met with the parents of slain teenager Michael Brown and others in Ferguson, Missouri. The unarmed black teen was shot and killed Aug. 9 by a white police officer. Outrage over the incident sparked days of protests and violence. Holder has pledged there will be a full and fair investigation. Separately, Missouri prosecutors are presenting evidence to a grand jury for possible prosecution of the officer who fired the shots. Diane and our guests offer an update on efforts to get to the facts related to the shooting and to address familiar but deeply troubling questions about police tactics and race relations.
