Conservative David Frum Critiques Republican Party

The Republican Party is dedicated to the alienation of women, minorities and young people.
It is difficult to conceive a political strategy more toxic to GOP interests.
The ongoing decerebration of American conservatism recalls the monkey that thrusts its hand in a candy jar and seizes so many sweets it cannot get its hand out again.
Despite my "credentials" as a liberal-radical Democrat, it is nevertheless embarrassing to contemplate one of the nation's two political parties behaving like a middle school bully and queen bee wannabe.

"First, Republicans have come to rely more and more on the votes of the elderly, the most government-dependent segment of the population — a serious complication for a party committed to reducing government. Second, the Republican donor class has grown more ideologically extreme, encouraging congressional Republicans to embrace ever more radical tactics. Third, the party’s internal processes have rigidified....The GOP can overcome the negative consequences of these changes and, in time, surely will. The ominous question for Republicans is, How much time will the overcoming take?" David Frum in Foreign Affairs
