1.) The noise of a crime-in-progress awoke Roderick Scott who, after strapping on his gun, left his home to halt the felony.
2.) Mr. Scott told all three thieves - caught en flagrante - to stop.
3.) Scott also informed the thieves that he had a gun and 9/11 had been notified.
3.) Initially the thieves stopped but then 17 year old Christopher Cervini rushed down the driveway directly at Mr. Scott screaming. Not knowing whether Cervini was armed -- Scott shot him.

Trayvon Martin
Wikipedia
The core facts are these: Trayvon was unarmed, walking home from a corner store where he had just bought soda and candy.
Whatever altercation may have occurred between Martin and Zimmerman, it is clear that their interaction began when Zimmerman decided to accost Trayvon for "walking while black."
There was NO probable cause.
Instead, there was Zimmerman's racially motivated fear which Florida's "stand your ground" law declares sufficient cause for shooting someone dead.
In effect, the legitimization of shooting "on suspicion" is a license to kill.
