Obama's Eulogy For Charleston Pastor Clementa Pinckney And His Fellow Martyrs
Dear Friends,

Yesterday my review of the novels of Marilynne Robinson was published in Public Books, an online review of books and culture.

Here is the link:

As some of you know, I've been working on the review for many months.  As it turns out, it was published just a few days after President Obama quoted Marilynne Robinson (on the subject of grace) in his powerful eulogy for Reverend Clementa Pinckney, the slain pastor of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal in Charleston, South Carolina.

We re-wrote the lede at the last minute to try to capture this connection to contemporary events.

The publication of this essay represents an effort on the part of Public Books to include thoughtful religious voices in a cultural dialogue from which we have been largely absent.  If you'd like to encourage that effort, please consider reading/commenting on the piece, sharing on social media, or yourself pitching a piece to the editors.

Thanks for your support.

Love,
ROB
