Multiple Deaths From Marijuana Cookies

The Neuroscience Of Pot: Researchers Explain Why Marijuana May Bring Serenity Or Psychosis

CDC: Colorado teen’s death shows ‘potential danger’ of edible weed | Denver

 on July 24, 2015

The 19-year-old jumped off a balcony in Denver and died after eating marijuana cookies.

The recommendation comes after several recent deaths related to marijuana overdoses. Investigators say he had no history of drug use or mental illness.

Levy Thamba was a student at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo., who was also known as Levi Thamba Pongi.
Levy ate the cookie after travelling to Denver, Colorado with a few college friends. Earlier this year, meanwhile, an Oklahoma man fatally shot himself this past March while vacationing in Colorado after having consumed several pieces of legally purchased pot candy.

The advocated in your diet is usually to only devour around one-sixth of a given bag of chips that could contain 10 milligrams of THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, the ingredient in pot. It may take 30 minutes to feel the “high” but after 30 minutes Pongi didn’t feel anything so instead, he ate the entire cookie which has around 65 mg of THC. “It’s not because of the weed”. After being dissatisfied with the effects from part of a cookie made with marijuana, the Wyoming teen decided to ingest the whole thing, leading him to essentially “trip-out” and jump off a fourth-story balcony.

The city’s coroners listed “marijuana intoxication” from cannabis-infused cookies as a significant condition contributing to Thamba’s death.

Eating marijuana affects the body differently than smoking it; THC is absorbed more slowly into the bloodstream and the intoxication lasts longer.

“Because of the delayed effects of THC-infused edibles, multiple servings might be consumed in close succession before experiencing the “high” from the initial serving, as reportedly occurred in this case”, the report said.

In February this year, Colorado instituted new rules for the packaging and labeling of edible marijuana products, requiring these products to contain no more than 10 mg of THC, or to have clear marking of each 10-mg serving, the report said.
The cookie was bought from a store, with instructions given by the store assistant to divide it into six pieces, each of which contained approximately 10mg of THC, marijuana’s psychoactive component. According to the CDC, an estimated 45 percent of Colorado’s marijuana sales involve edible marijuana, including food products and drinks. This issue is not exclusively focused on its users but those who can eat those sweet products, like toddlers, unconscious of its marijuana content.
In January, Washington DC followed Colorado, Washington State and Alaska in legalising the recreational use of the drug for those over 21 years of age.
