Obama's Eulogy For Charleston Pastor Clementa Pinckney And His Fellow Martyrs

Amazing Grace

Alan: President Obama's eulogy begins in earnest after conclusion of "formalities" around the 5 minute mark when Barack reminds us that "To put our faith in action is more than just individual salvation, it’s about our collective salvation, that to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and house the homeless is not just a call for isolated charity but the imperative of a just society."

Those who engage religion from the heart -- and do not merely "play at church" like teenagers often "play at school" -- work unstintingly for the good of everyone, and in their pursuit of The Common Good personal salvation becomes a corollary of embodying justice and working for peace even at the risk of one's own life.

Although Obama does not make the following observation, it is commonly true that the pursuit of personal salvation is a form of subtle selfishness which, in fact, obstructs personal salvation.
