University of Cincinnati Police Officer Indicted for Murder in Death of Samuel Dubose

The white University of Cincinnati police officer who shot unarmed black man Samuel Dubose during a traffic stop has been indicted on murder charges, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Officer Ray Tensing Greenhills Police Department

In announcing the murder charge against officer Ray Tensing, Hamilton County prosecutor Joe Deters said the death of Dubose, 43, was "unnecessary."
"This is the most asinine act I've ever seen a police officer make," Deters said at a news conference.
Dubose was pulled over July 19 for having a missing front license plate.
Authorities say when Tensing asked Dubose to hand over his driver's license and registration, he "produced a bottle of alcohol from inside the car, handing it to Officer Tensing" instead.
The car began rolling forward, and Tensing was knocked to the ground.
After a brief struggle ensued, Dubose was shot once in the head by the officer following as he sat behind the wheel of his car, authorities said.
"Totally unwarranted, it's an absolute tragedy in the year 2015 that anyone would behave in this manner," Deters said. "It was senseless and I met with the family moments ago. It's just horrible."
