"Perhaps the best understanding is Cardinal Walter Kasper's, "Francis' Revolution of Tenderness and Love." He emphasizes that the pope is neither conservative or liberal, but wants a "revolution of mercy" and that ".. the paradigm shift does not change the content of what has been valid up til now but the perspective of the horizon from which it is seen and understood."
This leaves one wondering what this "Francis revolution" is all about, let alone whether or not it will succeed. He says the pope is challenging, not demanding, demonstrating rather than pronouncing. "One can't just lean back and say, 'let's wait and see what the pope does.' We ourselves must venture out of our starting blocks...the Christian realism of the 'Joy of the Gospel' is beyond reactionary ideology and utopian effusions... A little compassion can move the world, Francis says... That is the Christian revolution... a revolution of mercy."
