What Americans don't see, won't see, can't see is that inordinately popular leaders - whatever their provenance - are popular in direct relationship to their thuggishness.
Putin (like Bush before him) is a very small man - a chest-thumping middle-schooler who never outgrew playground bullying.
Even more remarkably, Americans who most boast their freedom-loving patriotism are also most prone to admire Putin's strength -- regardless his criminality -- while holding Obama in contempt, no matter his admirable restraint and substantive accomplishment.
