Alan: I call it "aggressive ignorance."

Alan: At the state and federal level, designated "experts" should be published scientists who submit themselves to peer review. This is not a panacea. However, it is an eminently reasonable starting point.

If governments wish to publicize the views of amateurs and other opinion-makers who are not peer-reviewed scientists, they are welcome to do so as long as they label them as such.
