PEW Research Center's "News Quiz." How Do You Rank?

Alan: Currently, the gas price in 20 American states is under $3.00 a gallon... and falling like a stone.

The reason gas cost so little at the end of the Dubyah's administration is that The Economic Collapse that occurred "on Bush's watch" resulted in spiking unemployment which obliged citizens to cut back their gas purchases. Predictably, The Law of Supply and Demand ran its downward course.

The assumption that "current trends" can (and should!?!) be extrapolated forever is pathognomic of political naiveté

Another trait of political benightedness is the refusal to correct errors when proven wrong.

Dear George,

Thanks for forwarding PEW Research Center's "News Quiz."

It is a tribute to the nation's political benightedness that Americans are not only ignorant but aggressively ignorant.

Proudly ignorant. Boastfully ignorant.

To share my enjoyment, I have posted "News Quiz" at

When I took the PEW test myself, I answered all 12 questions correctly.

As often happens on such tests however, I had to guess which answer the tester "thought" was right rather than the one that is actually right.

This circumspection proved true for question #8 where "the right answer" is not the right answer.

Your friend who forwarded "News Quiz" thinks people should cancel their voter registration if they score below 50%.

Given all the right-wing chatter about "high academic standards," I wonder why his own standards are so low.

Maybe he's reluctant to disenfranchise most conservative voters.

PS I was intrigued that a substantial number of Americans scored lower than the grade they "should" have gotten by choosing answers randomly on this multiple choice quiz.

10 of 12    Crying face

Thought you might enjoy comparing your Current Events awareness with that of your fellow Americans.
This is a terrific test. It surely indicates that the majority of Americans don't know what's going on.

It's astonishing that 80% of the (voting) public doesn't have a clue, and that's pretty scary.

There are no tricks here -- just a simple test to see if you are current on your information.

Test your knowledge with the challenge of 12 questions, then be ready to shudder when you see how others did: If you get less than half correct, please cancel your        voter registration.

Good luck!
