Wrath Is The Deadly Sin Pathognomonic Of American Conservatism

Alan: I have long considered "greed" the deadly sin most characteristic of American conservatives. But no longer... I now believe their pathognomonic sin is "wrath." Almost universally, American conservatives are wrathful people - vindictive, vengeful and violently punitive. They cannot even ape happiness unless they (or their political representatives) are beating someone into submission. Remarkably, American conservatives are oblivious to the moral peril of such behavior. Wrath does not appear on their moral compass. Conditioned by their concubinage with greed, conservatives do not consider wrath a bad thing, not even in theory. Rather, wrath -- especially "the wrath of their putatively loving God smiting the ungodly" -- is a virtue. A "virtue" at whose altar they first genuflect, then make the sign of the cross.

Love? Mercy? Compassion? Forgiveness?

They don't rise to radar.

Since we are all sinners, conservatives might well remember that "Love covers a multitude of sins."
