"The Oh, So Stressful Suburbs," By "The Thinking Housewife," Laura Wood

Another day in Somalia

What  do you think? Is this woman a satanic liberal?
Such people impress me as deranged simians.

What began as a folie à deux between Ronald Reagan and Grover Norquist has become

folie à plusieurs that encompasses the nation's entire "conservative" cadre.
(American conservatives shun psychology because they are dimly aware it will reveal their lunacy.)

Dear Fred,

Thanks for the heads up.

Except for my belief in the untenability of global population growth, I think her diagnosis -- at least at the level of gross morphology -- is quite good.

We differ substantially on the matter of "free" market capitalism and "the invisible hand of the marketplace," which, while not specifically mentioned, are the unspoken sub-texts of many conservative positions.

You and I grew up at a time when "the greatest generation" emphasized that "everything contains the seeds of its own destruction."

And so it is with the devolution of Cowboy Capitalism which -- ever since Ronald Reagan presided over The "Me" Generation -- has been sinking under its own dead weight

"Capitalism: The Most Powerful Productive Engine Ever Is Destroying The United States"

We will not exit our current lurch until The Beast is socialized and corporations are no longer considered "persons."

Laura speaks critically of the objectification of human subjects.

Does she realize that this objectification is chiefly attributable to conservative capitalists who prostitute/corrupt anyone (and anything) as they go about the business of selling "The Seven Deadly Sins?"

Greed. Envy. Gluttony. Lust. Wrath.

"The Power of Pride." http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2014/06/war-is-racket-gen-smedley-butler.html

The only deadly sin not lodged in Capitalism's heartless bosom is sloth.

Ironically, capitalist dedication to "the busyness of business" is rooted in greed which then gives way to envy, gluttony and lust, thus completing the cycle

Capitalism's hypertrophy is as corrosive to the social environment as it is to the physical environment, where large populations with enormous resource appetites (fostered by consumerism) contribute to the crises of "air" and "water."

Pax on both houses,

Alan

PS In my lifetime I have seen America's suburbs transition from "New Deal liberal communities" typified by vitality neighborliness (and stay at home Moms!) to their current status as embittered (when not hateful) Republican strongholds. It is ironic that Laura criticizes suburban life when that same "life" is the direct result of conservatives' demographic takeover. Liberals, on the other hand, concentrate in cities and towns, the places I instinctively go for conviviality and a sense of belonging to something larger than the cramped ugliness of hatch-battened, wagon-circled Individualism. American conservatives have grown too insulated and too isolated in their suburban and country "pleasure domes." They are increasingly clueless to what's really happening in America, where -- for one thing -- violent crime rates have experienced free fall since 1995. Fittingly, alarmist scaredy cats "on the right" have become 2nd amendment evangelists while the actual threat of violence continues its long-term decline. Third generation Episcopalian minister John Sanford -- also a Jungian analyst -- observed that "Isolation is the breeding ground of evil." America's armed-to-the-teeth, deeply entrenched "conservatives" bear him out.

It is not without reason that the word "heathen" means "of the heath"; that "pagan" derives from paganus meaning "country dweller"; and that "villain" derives from sprawling rural estates where large numbers of subservient menials keep the 1%'s "villas" running.

It is fundamentally irresponsible for people who profess "personal responsibility"
to disclaim responsibility for the human structures of which they are part.
