Although I am not a very virtuous person -- and have great difficulty with "breath from the belly forgiveness" -- it is clear that we must do "the right thing" because the way we treat others is, ultimately, the way we treat ourselves.
It would not surprise me if the way we treat the most despicable is, ultimately, the way we treat ourselves.
