I am astonished by Obama's ability to enjoy the give-and-take of politics, not only when "dishing it out" to political opponents (sitting just feet from his podium!) but also when taking pot shots at himself.

I cannot imagine coming remotely close to putting myself, deliberately, in the hot seat of the United States presidency.

Despite our many shortcomings as a people and a polity it is remarkable that these events take place. (When I worked in Nicaragua in the late '80s a gifted young OB/GYN (who trained in Italy) said to me that the best part about liberation from Somoza's oppression was that finally the Nicaragua people were free to make their own mistakes.)

PS Humor aside, Obama will go down as a very good -- maybe even an excellent -- president.

He has been forced to wear a necklace of obstructionist assholes these last 6 years.

But far more often than not I applaud what Barack does... and the grace with which he does it.
