Self-Terrorization Is The National Pastime

Dear Fred,

Thanks for your emails.

Since 9/11, The National Pastime is self-terrorization.

Although I would modify Mencken's observation by inserting the phrase "most of them imaginary," he is spot on. http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2013/04/hl-mencken-whole-aim-of-practical.html

Either we focus love... or we are lost.

The principal polarity that rules our lives situates "love" and "fear" at the extremes.

1 John 4:18

18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

"Martin Luther King Jr. On Hatred, Violence, Love And Jesus The Way"

American conservatives are uniquely skilled at self-terrorization. http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2013/02/john-xxiii-and-christian-conservatives.html

If the country comes undone, conservatives' proclivity for fearful fascism will be disproportionately responsible.

Islamic Jihad and Christian Fundamentalism are mirror images.

"Why of course the people don't want war... Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.... Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought along to do the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Alan,

Why not put the whole country in lockdown? Last week the media was pumping up the North Korean nuclear attack threat. This week it's Boston. Don't let 'em scare you.
