"fundamental change" Santorum predicts would be an end to American
irrationality and its replacement by Reason. The "smart people" whom
Santorum would relegate to oblivion will again serve as counselors and policy
guides. Opinioned bombast will lose its cachet and -- with the decline of
aggressive ignorance -- global warming will be attributed to human agency and
the assumption that taxes can only go down will seem as absurd as magnetism
with only one pole.

Santorum: Obama victory would ‘fundamentally’ change America

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) in an address to the Values Voter Summit in Washington on Saturday urged social conservatives to back Mitt Romney, saying that a President Obama victory would “fundamentally” change America.
“If ‘ObamaCare’ is implemented, if the foreign policy of this president continues, we will live in a world and in a country that is fundamentally different than the one that we have lived in for the past,” said Santorum. “There’ll be a realignment in the world and America, and the values that built this country over 230 years will be very different that we hand off to our children.”
Santorum, a favorite of social conservative voters, fought a tough primary fight against Romney before exiting the race and endorsing the GOP nominee.
On Saturday, he said Romney “understands” and “shares” the values of religious conservatives and encouraged them to help elect the former Massachusetts governor to the White House.
Santorum said that while voters were primarily focused on the state of the nation’s economy, there was “more at stake in this country than just economics,” and he cautioned conservatives that they would never have the support of the media or “elite, smart people” on their side.
“They believe they should have the power to tell you what to do. So our colleges and universities, they’re not going to be on our side,” he said.
Santorum also offered support for Romney’s criticisms of the administration’s policies toward the Middle East, saying that Obama had “to take a share of the responsibility for what the Middle East looks like today, because he helped structure it.”
Obama had “coddled and appeased” regimes hostile to the U.S., “from Iran to Hamas and Hezbollah,” said Santorum.
He added that the administration had “turned their back” on those in the region who were allies, including Israel and the former Egyptian regime of Hosni Mubarak.
“He has sent a very clear message to that area of the world: If you are a friend of the United States, you are on your own. If you are an enemy of the United States, let’s talk,” said Santorum.
Santorum said that the U.S. was less safe under Obama.
“We have created a vacuum, and we are seeing it is being filled, and it’s not being filled by people that we want to have fill it,” he said.
