Alan: America has turned its back on FDR's frank oppostion to the "organized money" of Wall Street replacing his courage and audacity with slavish adulation of the plutocrat (and his softcore porn wife - Donald's third) now in the White House.
This unhinged transition from "following the money" to "worshipping the money" represents the underlying (and largely invisible) victory of Cowboy Capitalism.
"Organized money" -- culminating with the Citizens United ruling that declared corporations "people" -- seduced the national psyche into craving the consolation prizes of purchaseable pleasures.
Things became more important people.

This normalization of greed slowly corroded and finally replaced the nation's social conscience so that Americans gladly relinquished their political advocacy as citizens in pursuit of "The Common Good" and "The General Welfare" to become "consumer units" --- rugged individuals entrenched in self-seeking silos, surrounded by electronic "moats," each one dwelling in his private Xanadu.
