Putin is a typical Russian autocrat, so I can understand his familiarity..... But how did America come up with Trump?

Alan Archibald A preliminary note...

The following email just arrived from a Marine friend who was twice medevacked from Vietnam battlefields and who subsequently trained as a historian at one of North Carolina's premier universities.

In his email, TM comments on the Scottish documentary, "You've Been Trumped."

"Thanks, I watched it yesterday. It is a pity that Trump has supporters as I, for one, am totally convinced he is a traitor working as a Russian 'asset.' One must concede full points to Putin; his has been a brilliant success."

Concerning your question: "How did Americans come up with Trump?"

Bad religion, Fred.

"Conservative" "Christians" cling to their supposedly "inerrant" bibles and smoking guns, believing that the authoritarian promise of "safety and security" is categorically more important than the real risks of real love.

Yeshua got crucified for modeling the nitty-gritty nuts-and-bolts of the latter.

In similar vein, it is fair to say that the last time Christians "had any balls," they welcomed martyrdom. (Many theologians now wonder if early Christians deliberately courted martyrdom as a fast track to paradise.)

A credal fundament of the early church was its linchpin belief that "Semen est sanguis Christianorum" - "The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church."

Nowadays, conservative Christians -- flag in hand -- proudly "stand their ground," "shooting anything that moves," so long as the victim's skin is even close to as dark as their "Lord and Savior's."
