 Alan: The presumed "goodness/utility of torture" is the master key to the conservative psyche.

Many conservatives - particularly "Christian" "conservatives" - are essentially cruel people, made in the image of their eternally punitive, tormenting God. (Or, perhaps it is more accurate to say that God is made in the image of "Christian" "conservatives."
