Correspondence With A Texas Editor Friend Concerning Political Falsehood And Gullibility

Dear Elaine,

Thanks for your daily thought.

Orwell was a great liberal-revolutionary thinker.

To paraphrase your forwarded Orwell quotation, I would venture that "there are many more absurd ideas that only non-intellectuals could believe."

For example...

Trump will repeal and replace Obamacare on his first day in office.

Trump will build a wall and get Mexico to pay for it.

Trump will lock up Hillary. (Personally, I would like to see him try. But he'd better hurry. I don't think a president can prosecute someone from prison. And if he would like to practice legal prosecution in order "to get his sea legs" he can start with General Lynch and Paul Manafort.)

Or ponder these absurd claims...

Obama's Kenyan birthplace made him ineligible to be president. (Notably, Ted Cruz was born in Canada -- also of one American parent -- and there was not a single peep out of American conservatives about his eligibility.)

Trump's claim to have done nothing wrong at Trump "University."

Trump's claim to know more than the generals.

Trump's claim that 5,000,000 illegal ballots were cast in 2016.

I'm A Bilingual Latino Ombudsman: My View Of Supposedly Widespread Hispanic Voter Fraud

Trump's claim that "global warming" was a "hoax by the Chinese to make American manufacturing non-competitive.

Trump's disparagement of John McCain's military service.

Trump's bogus claim to have donated a million dollars to veterans' groups.

Trump's boast about the size of his penis during one of the televised presidential debates. (I do not object to the boast as much as I do Tiny Fingers' lie.)

Trump's suggestion that Ted Cruz' father was involved in John Kennedy's assassination.

Trump's brazen lie that Obama issued a statement acknowledging Kwanzaa but failed to issue one for Christmas”

Trump's claim that there has been "no real assimilation among third-generation” families from the Middle East even though George W. Bush would not have won Florida in 2000 were it not for the overwhelming Republican support by naturalized Muslims who voted in that state.

Trump's claim that “Refugees are trying to take over our children” by telling them “how wonderful Islam is.” (If you can locate a single American who will attest to this, please let me know...)

Trump's unapologetic "use of contributions to the Trump Foundation to buy a helmet and jersey signed by Tim Tebow for $12,000 at a charity auction." (Trump also purchased a portrait of himself using charitable money.

Trump's false claim that Ferguson, Missouri, and Oakland, California, were “among the most dangerous [places] in the world.” (For 10 years I lived in Oakland, including the city's "socio-economic" underbelly of West Oakland and Trump's claim is as absurd as Trump himself.)

And there's more!

Much more!

Near as I can make out, Obama's only significant lie was to say that "under Obamacare you can keep your own doctor" -- a statement that was often -- but not always -- true.
