Church raffles off AR-15 semi-automatics weapons—if you bring children you get extra chances to win
“If we get people in the door, we get to preach the gospel,” said Heath Mooneyham, Ignite’s lead pastor. “If we can get more people to follow Jesus, I’ll give away 1,000 guns. I don’t care.”
Because that is what Jesus would do, right? No, wrong. Assault weapons are meant for one thing — to kill. Jesus was against killing.
The Globe reports on a church in Joplin, Missouri, that held a raffle and gave away two Black Rain AR-15 assault rifles on Father’s Day. Fathers were given one free ticket and another for each child they brought in. (I wonder if you could bring in someone else’s child for extra tickets...) Ignite says it was part of a marketing strategy to “lure”  young men between 18-35 to follow Jesus. Because that’s what Jesus would do right? No,wrong. No where does it say Jesus “lured.”
Dan McCain was one of the winners and he was excited because he’d never won anything in his life! He added, “Firearm ownership does not equate to violence.” Well, we’ll talk about that after you say your prayers for the 33,000 adults and children who lost their lives just last year from gun ownership.
Ignite’s main guy, Heath Mooeyham, who calls himself a pastor said:
“It doesn’t enter our minds that we’re potentially harming society by giving away a gun,” Mooneyham said. “It’s just our nature, where as if you have a church where it’s 75- to 85-year-old women, they would give away a nice quilt, and they’d be excited about it. That’s how excited our church got about the AR-15 because that speaks our language.”
Fucking sexist asshat that he is, Mooneyham also gave away free ammunition as well. Thankfully, there are Christians in the town who censured Ignite’s marketing ploy.
“I think giving away weapons, with all the violence in this country, gives way to new violence,” said Steve Urie, pastor at the Joplin Diversity Fellowship. “I don’t think it’s just nontraditional. I think it’s careless and reckless.”
Thank you for that, Pastor Urie. We need more Christians and Christian leaders to speak out when they see wrong. It takes courage to go up against the wrath of many excitable gunners and NRA members. Cheers to all who speak up anyway.
Jesus open carries.
Why not me?
