In Iowa, bearded Duck Dynasty guy Phil Robertson stumps for Ted Cruz. His pitch is a bit unusual.
Introducing the competitive candidate at a rally Sunday, the reality show patriarch not only attacked marriage equality as “evil,” but suggested that its supporters needed to be literally obliterated. [...]“It’s sinful. They want us to swallow it, you say. We have to run this bunch out of Washington, D.C. We have to rid the earth of them. Get them out of there. Ted Cruz loves God.”
Telling your fellow countrymen that God wants them to "rid the earth" of gay people and anyone who's not properly discriminatory against gay people ... huh. I'm not sure how that ties in with the Republican "rebranding," but given that Ted Cruz is fighting with Donald Trump for the polling lead I guess it ties in pretty darn well.
Cruz certainly didn't have much to say about it.
“What a voice Phil has to speak out for the love of Jesus,” Cruz added. “What a joyful, cheerful, unapologetic voice of truth Phil Robertson is.”
Everyone's pulling out the stops for this Iowa win, I see. Let's see if "rid the earth of gays" plays better or worse than the "immigrants are rapists" pitch.
