Thomas Jefferson Nails Bigotry
"Bigotry is the disease of ignorance, of morbid minds; enthusiasm of the free and buoyant. education & free discussion are the antidotes of both." Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, August 1, 1816
Jefferson, like most Founding Fathers, revered The Enlightenment, subscribing to open-minded Deism, the religious disposition corresponding most neatly to Enlightenment principles with their high valuation of research, education and open, probing discussion.
