The note and the hair lock comes encased in an oval glazed locket, whose front is hand-engraved with an outer border of engine turning, and a U.S. shield with stripes and stars.

The locket's back boasts a similar design, but with a central cartouche, and feathered center.
Regarded as the main draws of the sale, this piece of lock which is estimated to fetch as much as $25,000 comes with tremendous provenance, having been consigned by its original owner’s family.

Another lock of Lincoln’s hair, which comes with small black bow and an embossed leather case (pictured above), was offered on sale by Heritage Auctions’, where it was expected to fetch between $8,000 and $12,000.
