Alan: After Hillary Clinton's two terms as president, I see the torch passing to Julian Castro.

Given The Republican Party's relentless contempt for women, Hispanics, young adults, gays, lesbians and other people of color, I cannot imagine the GOP winning the Oval Office in the foreseeable future.

American conservatives not only confront -- but nourish -- a mounting demographic tsunami dead-set against them.

The GOP's astonishing suicidality is without political precedent.

20 more years of Oval Office control by The Democratic Party means that The Supreme Court will soon be entirely liberal and will remain so through 2050, if not 2060.

However, since "power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely," this Democratic dominance will not be an undiluted good.

In any event, this bedrock fact remains: The Republican Party is hoist on its own petard.

Report: Obama to tap Julian Castro to lead HUD

Donovan Slack, USA Today

May 17, 2014

WASHINGTON – President Obama is looking to tap San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to head the department of Housing and Urban Development,The New York Times is reporting.
Current HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan would then slide over to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget. Obama has nominated former OMB chief Sylvia Mathews Burwell to take over as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
White House spokesman Eric Schultz declined Saturday to provide any information about the reported cabinet shuffle.
"We have no personnel announcements at this time," he said.
The moves are part of a domino effect following the resignation last month of Kathleen Sebelius, who left after the troubled roll-out of HealthCare.gov  Her departure allows the president to shake things up in his cabinet for the final two years of his term.
Castro, 39, is a three-term mayor who has been widely talked about for higher office. He is considered an up-and-coming star in the Democratic Party, and his speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention only served to burnish his reputation.
Donovan has led HUD since just days after Obama took office. Obama tapped him to lead a task force in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. After the president won re-election, Donovan was the subject of much speculation about what the second-term cabinet would look like and whether he would stay.

Julian Castro and his identical twin brother, United States Representative, Joaquin Castro.
(The worst dirt the GOP has been able to dig up on Julian is that Joaquin sat in for him at a San Antonio parade when Julian was suddenly sidelined by the flu.)
