If a foreign power did to the United States what the United States did to Iraq -- and did so for analogous reasons -- there would never be hint of rapprochement, just diehard determination to wipe the offending power from the face of the earth.

At any cost.

No matter how much hatred it took.

Regardless collateral damage.

The Christian enjoinder to "love your enemies" would become "kill every last sonofabitch" faster than you can say Abu Graib.

Lest we forget...

There was no Iraqi involement in 9/11. 

There were no weapons of mass destruction harbored in Iraq.

Anyone with rudimentary knowledge of The Middle East would realize the elementary truth that Saddam Hussein -- perhaps the most modernizing influence in the Arab world -- was an ideological enemy of Osama bin Laden, who, in turn, was a medievalist fighting to restore a 7th century Caliphate.

The two men would have hated each other.
