Increasingly, the faith-based suppositions of those who declare "the bible says it; I believe it; that settles it," are contradicted by rudimentary factuality.
"Build the wall and Mexico will pay for it."
The assertion that global warming is a "Chinese hoax to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."
Trump's blunt statement that "any negative polls are fake news."
All these "whimsicalities" are provably nonsensical.
(As an aside, I will note that "the realm of the mythic" is, by nature -- and rightly so -- beyond the reach of factual criteria.)

Since many "verities" previously "taken for granted" have been revealed as patent nonsense to anyone possessing "the fundaments of intellectual rigor," there are ever-fewer anti-intellectual "asylums" in which addlepates can take refuge.
Consequently, the world is increasingly divided between people who either "don't want to know" (or "want to be lied to"), and those who are able to conduct trustworthy research knowing that "teasing out The Truth" depends on a person's willingness "to prove himself wrong."
There is also a sizeable contingent of strident idiots in America - many of them 24/7 conspiracists who accumulate reams of information (most of it unproven, inconclusive or anecdotal) - to confirm foregone conclusions by "echo-chamber-repetition," actively pursuing "confirmation bias" rather than avoiding it like Ebola.

Routinely, the prime directive for contemporary "conservatives" (at least those of Trumpista orientation) is to resurrect bankrupt beliefs in manifest nonsense (most of them relating to the restoration of White Supremacy).
Finally, the easiest way to ratify falsehood is to throw oneself headlong into conspiratorial thinking, hadopelagically-Deep Denial, alternative facts, and/or the simple expedient of concocting whole-cloth lies.
The two most impassioned right wingers I know actually uttered the following sentences:
1.) Georgie -- who forwards every right-wing email to everyone in his directory -- says: "I like to be partially right."
2.) And when I presented The Thinking Housewife with a "best knowledge" review of abortion statistics showing that the U.S. abortion rate is now lower than it was prior to Rowe v. Wade, she simply said, "I don't believe it."
Yes, "you" can "go there..."

And if people do not accept The Facts that naturally fill "the void," then the resulting "negative pressure of the void" will "suck in" (and orchestrate) an entire gestalt of interlocking falsehoods, up to and including hallucination, or, at the very least, you will be infected with the eldritch belief that lies are proper substitutes for Truth.
