McCain Conspiracists Say His Brain Cancer Was A Hoax
"If the deep state #fakenews is capable of lying about Russia hacking the election, they are also capable of planting a McCain illness story," @JeannaEckert wrote on Twitter.
The fact that "anything is possible" does not mean it is probable.
In fact, given the infinite number of conjurable "possibilities," it is a fact -- "plain as potatoes" as Chesterton would say -- that "possibility" rarely plays out as factual certainty.
Even if 9/11 were proven to be an "inside job" (and what, pray tell, does that proof look like?), most people would ignore the "proof" and blow off "the inside job" as a matter of complete indifference.
20 years ago I read a comment made by a Naval Academy History professor.
He said - and I "quote" from memory - "Trying to teach cadets about Vietnam is like teaching them the Peloponnesian Wars."
On the other hand, look at all the things we do know that in the minds of most people don't matter.
The Vietnam War (in which 2 - 3 million people died) was nonsense.
The Iraq War (in which a million people died) was nonsense.
The monstrosity of Trump's presidency and the fact that his election was made possible by "good Christians." (In fact, by "good Christian white people.")
And now, not only do you tell me that 3000 people died on 9/11 -- and it was an inside job -- but you prove it to me!
Over 90% of the population will not give squat.
In no more than 20 years, 9/11 will become another Peloponnesian War.
Less than half the population will pay attention to the "proof."
And of those who give it some thought, it will become another Trivial Pursuit answer.
You think you're doing something critically important.
I understand that, and that's something admirable about your commitment.
But you're wasting your time.
And -- along the way -- your trashing epistemology.
Aquinas is rolling over in his grave.
It is possible to think one's way out of "The Conspiracist Trap."
Tragically, Carl Sagan is right.
Snopes: For All The Conspiracists Who Would Have Us Believe Quirky Photographic Evidence
And you expect me to be impressed by aerial photos of port-a-potties at Sandy Hook?
Did CNN Use the Same Girl in Three Different Refugee Crisis Pictures?
This girl in the above photographs was "handed off" to three different men.
And she was photographed in the arms of each.
(Even if people don't believe this, how can you disprove the "postulate?")
Conspiracism is an inescapable swamp.
