Contextualization Of The Argument That Liberals Should Support Kavanaugh's Nomination

Dear Chuck,

Thanks for sending this article.

I believe Democrats have just enough juice to mount one Supreme Court resistance effort.

If -- miraculously -- they manage to bork Kavanaugh, the likelihood of getting someone worse is overwhelming.

Although the rapid "browning of America" will soon shift politics back to the left, as a people we have always been willing -- eager! -- to perpetrate atrocities, starting with "the extermination" of Native Americans (to use General William Tecumseh Sherman's post-Civil War terminology).

Sherman wrote Grant that "we must act with vindictive earnestness against the Sioux, even to their extermination, men, women and children."[113] In 1867, he wrote to Grant that "we are not going to let a few thieving, ragged Indians check and stop the progress of [the railroads]."[112] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tecumseh_Sherman

Then there's the Spanish-American war with Uncle Sam's unspeakable atrocities in the Philippines; the Vietnam War; the Iraq War; the use of the atomic bomb - not once but twice - both times on civilian populations, including Nagasaki, the epicenter of Japanese Christianity.

The list is long but I agree with Jimmy Carter's Attorney General Ramsey Clark who said "The greatest crime since World War II has been U.S. foreign policy." (Check out this graph: http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2014/04/terrorism-and-other-religions-juan-cole.html)

On top of the wanton, counterproductive and ultimately self-destructive atrocities perped by Uncle Sam, equally wanton Cowboy Capitalism has replaced citizenship - and its focus on The Common Good, The General Welfare and a meaningful Social Contract - with the self-seeking ends of monadic "consumer units" hermetically sealed in their pleasure dome silos.

Sure, there are two sides to every story, but did you watch the footage of Trump's Wednesday rally in Tampa, Florida? http://paxonbothhouses.blogspot.com/2018/08/cnns-jim-acosta-blames-donald-trump-fox.html

It is true that these "good, white, Christian people" -- powerful enough to elect SOBMF -- have been systematically debased.

But it is overarchingly true that America's oligarchic powers -- now confident of their ability to run the show -- put a card-carrying plutocrat in The White House, and "having eliminated the middle man," are diligently undoing everything good that has been built up in the body politic.

Amidst the wreckage and horror of The Great Unravelling, George Carlin and Jon Stewart are not only notable for their keen insight but for bolstering flayed spirits in this time of deliberate, diabolical darkness.
