Conservative Icon Krauthammer Faults GOP Scaredy Cats; Talks Sense About LGBT Hate Laws

"Plett Put Me Here" - The Canadian Senate has passed an amendment to a transgender rights bill that would ban trans ppl from using the bathrooms that correspond w/ their gender. Lawmakers in the US are considering similar legislation. Trans people in Canada & the US are sharing photos of themselves in public bathrooms they would be legally obligated to use [Click on this image to find a short video & analysis of the gender politics of restrooms and the role media plays in enforcing transphobia]:
PLETT refers to Canadian legislation that restricts transgendered people to the bathroom corresponding to their birth gender.

Krauthammer: There’s No ‘Epidemic of Transgenders Being Evil in Bathrooms’

On Fox News tonight, Charles Krauthammer dismissed the giant conservative freakout about transgenders using bathrooms of the gender they identify as.
Or, as Ted Cruz and others have put it, grown men leering at young girls in bathrooms.
Laura Ingraham said this should be a state issue and “not exactly Rosa Parks on the bus here.” She warned that allowing transgenders into the bathrooms they feel comfortable in would lead to people exploiting the system to do harm.
Ingraham blamed the media for making this an issue, but Krauthammer pointed out this only became an issue in the first place because Republicans in North Carolina and other states decided this was a problem.
And in his opinion, it’s really not:
“This is a solution in search of an issue. I mean, do we really have an epidemic of transgenders being evil in bathrooms across the country? I haven’t heard of a single case.”
“It is not a major national problem,” he concluded, “and it should have been left that way.”
Alan: Republican are "obsessed with" -- and "fearful of" -- vanishingly remote threats.

Myopia, disproportionate amplification of perceived threats (a.k.a. "self-terrorization") and vapid contextualization combine to make molehills into mountains and mountains into molehills.

Best Pax Posts: Self-Terrorization Is The National Pastime

In the absence of properly-calibrated perspective, Republicans "always" miss the mark: their apprehensions either overblown or underinflated.
There is "always" a scientific crackpot or faith-based "seer" (providing "the new, definitive" interpretation of The Book of Revelation) to insure that the GOP never lacks replacements for Trump, Carson and Cruz.

"Are Republicans Insane?" Best Pax Posts
Republicans (and other "conservatives") continually dredge exceptions-to-the-rule, which, if not fearfully forfended, will wreak imminent havoc.

Revealingly, havoc never manifests.

To the contrary, conservative efforts to prevent havoc is how conservatives create havoc.

Recall the apocalyptic predictions surrounding the torrent of Central American children who poured across the Texas border two years ago. Does anyone currently care? Do you even remember?

Think back to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and how that conflict -- as represented by fear-ridden American "conservatives" -- was touted as a trigger for World War III. And now?

Similarly, it was just a year and a half ago that a few Ebola infections here in "The Homeland" led conservative Americans to predict eschatological scenarios.

And the three-cornered "umbrella" overarching this fearmongering is 1.) hysteria, 2.) irrationality and 3.) the absence of intellectual rigor.

Similarly, conservatives enlist vanishingly rare "climate scientists" to argue against anthropogenic global warming and -- based on modern "conservatism's" penchant for shoddy science and science denial -- these dunderheads lather themselves to represent "exceptions-to-rules" as "New Rules."

Until "The Flood," Americans will remain the "exceptional" people they are, using their precious consciences as "godly" vehicles for hatred and oppression.
