Archduke Ferdinand On The Day He Was Assassinated, 1914

Archduke Franz
Ferdinand with his wife on the day they are assassinated, which
contributed to the start of WWI (1914)
Alan: My research has provided no satisfactory explanation for "what" started World War I although the Ferdinand's assassination is routinely given as the immediate cause.

There is wide agreement that the Treaty of Versailles which ended World War I caused World War II.

I sometimes wonder if the establishment of the modern Israeli state will be the cause of World War III.
