There is much more trash talking about Obama than Bush. It is also enlightening to probe the reports themselves, both for their "degree of weirdness" and"causticity." Conservative views of Obama tend to be completely unhinged whereas liberal misrepresentation of Bush is typically less deranged and less caustic.

What is new in American politics is that contemporary conservatives want to lie to others and want other conservatives to lie to them. Their collective passion is to create an "information milieu" so saturated with falsehood that only citizens imbued with intellectual rigor and possessing adequate academic tools to separate wheat from chaff can distinguish truth from falsehood.

This determination to replace truth with falsehood recalls the woman who reportedly said to Democratic presidential candidate, Adlai Stevenson: "Senator, you have the vote of every thinking person!" to which Stevenson shot back: "Unfortunately, that's not enough, madam, we need a majority!"
